Not everything that grows needs to be pushed.
Some things need space.
We have been taught to believe that if we want something badly enough, we should work harder. Move faster. Push through every sign that we are tired.
But what if growth is not always about doing more?
What if, sometimes, it is about creating the conditions for something meaningful to take shape?
A seed does not become a tree because someone pulls at its branches.
It grows through patience.
Nourishment.
Light.
And time.
The same is true for us.
Patience.
Nourishment.
Light.
Time.
We need them too.
In the Yoga Sutras, Ahimsa is the first of the yamas, the practice of not harming, including toward ourselves. We usually hear it as kindness toward everyone around us. Turned inward, it becomes a harder question.
How are we treating ourselves along the way?
Are we motivating ourselves through constant criticism?
Are we calling it ambition when it is actually fear of not being enough?
Are we so focused on the outcome that we have forgotten to care for the person doing the work?
You can be committed without being cruel to yourself.
You can hold a vision without rushing every season.
You can pursue something with your whole heart while respecting the limits of your body, your mind, and your energy.
Rest is not the opposite of progress.
Sometimes rest is what allows progress to become sustainable.
You do not have to force every door open.
You do not have to turn every quiet season into evidence that you are falling behind.
Trust the work.
Honour the season.
Give yourself the same patience you would offer something you truly wanted to see flourish.
You are not behind because you are growing at your own pace.
Let the quiet seasons be quiet.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop forcing, take a breath, and give life room to unfold.
On Wednesdays, our journey is built on exactly this. Ninety minutes of yin and sound, and nothing to force. Doors open at 6:40 PM.
