The Yin Link

You are not tired.

You are dysregulated.

A study published today in the journal Mindfulness scanned 39 adults before and after eight weeks of practice.

The practice was simple.

Recorded guided mindfulness.

No live teacher. No studio. No one in the room.

Just a voice. Just the breath. Just showing up.

Then the researchers did something brave.

They scanned the participants while briefly blocking their airflow.

A sudden feeling of not being able to breathe fully.

Real discomfort. Real stress. Inside the machine.

The brains of those who practiced responded differently.

The connection between the brain's control center and the regions that feel the body grew stronger.

The response to discomfort became calmer. Less effortful. More regulated.

The scientists call it preliminary.

Small group. Early evidence. More research needed.

I call it the oldest news in the world.

This is what Yin has always known.

In Yin we hold the pose while the body asks to leave.

We stay while sensation rises.

We breathe while discomfort speaks.

We are training the exact capacity this study measured.

The ability to remain regulated when the body turns uncomfortable.

Stillness is not doing nothing.

Stillness is practice.

Your nervous system is listening to every breath you give it.

Give it a calm one.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for practicing. Thank you for practicing stillness with me.

If you want to feel this in your own body, join us on Wednesday. Come as you are.
